Sports equipment is often associated with performance and load. Yoga and Pilates remind us that a strong body is also a mobile body, capable of stretching, holding a pose, and recovering.
The mat is not a secondary accessory. It determines whether you hold a pose for thirty seconds or three minutes. If it's too thin, your knees and wrists will feel the hard floor. If it's too thick, you lose the stability needed for balancing poses.
What thickness should you choose? Count on 3 mm for dynamic yoga where grip and ground contact are paramount, 4 mm for versatile use that covers both yoga and strengthening, and 6 mm if you prioritize joint comfort, long stretches, and prolonged floor work.
Elastic bands as a complement open up ranges inaccessible with bare hands: shoulder opening, hamstring stretching, hip mobilization. They serve as support to progress towards poses that flexibility alone does not yet allow.
